동강에서 보낸 가을 한 철
그리운 사람의 뒷모습이 흐려지면
예고도 없이 가을이 오고 있다는 신호라네
나는 말없이 흐르는 동강 기슭에 앉아
세상의 습기를 모두 가져간 바람에게
동글동글 매달린 눈물을 던져 버렸다네
아무도 없는 모래밭에 쓸쓸히 묶인 나룻배가
제 그림자와 속삭이며 놀고 있는 사이로
강물을 돌아 흐르던 고독한 가을바람이
질겼던 삶의 기억을 슬며시 놓고 가네
바위의 허리를 잡고 일어선 구절초가
지상에 남겨둔 뿌리를 필사적으로 흔들며
쓸쓸히 흘러가는 동강에게 말을 거는데
나는 강언덕에 앉아 깡소주를 마시며
울울울 흐르는 강물의 깊이를 생각하다가
바스러진 가을의 설움을 걱정하다가
바위에 누워 낮달을 베고 잠들고 말았다네
“그대여, 가을 끝에 도달하지 않고서는
고독에서 벗어나지 못하는 법이라네”
When the shape of a loved one fades,
it’s the quiet signal—
autumn has come, unannounced.
I sat by the silent riverbank of Donggang,
tossing round tears
to the wind that had stolen the world’s dampness.
On the empty shore,
a tethered boat whispers to its own shadow.
And through that hushed play,
the lonely autumn breeze drifts past,
leaving behind
memories of a stubborn life.
Wild chrysanthemums cling to the rocks,
shaking their buried roots with desperate grace,
speaking to the passing Donggang river.
And I—
sitting on the bluff, sipping cheap soju,
pondered the river’s weeping depth,
worried over the brittle sorrow of fall—
until I lay down upon a stone,
pillowed by the pale noon-moon,
and slipped into sleep.
“Dear one,
no soul escapes loneliness
without reaching the end of autumn.”
